چکیده

A retrospective study was performed in children (aged one month - 16 years) receiving HFNC to determine the frequency, efficacy and adverse effects of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), from January December 2017. Treatment failure defined as clinical deterioration on such that mechanical ventilation (MV) required. Clinical parameters before after were assessed using repeated measures analysis variance. total 120 patients received (21% admissions). Primary diagnosis respiratory disease (50%), central nervous system diseases (14.2%), sepsis (10.8%), postoperative (10%). Mean duration 27.5 ±19.7 hours mean PICU length stay 6 ± days. Pneumothorax developed four patients. MV required 28 patients, subsequently, 15 deaths occurred group. is a frequently used, safe effective for requiring support PICU. Key Words: Respiratory insufficiency, Non-invasive ventilation, Paediatric unit.

Varicella Exposure in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Low Resource Country: Successful Prophylaxis with Intravenous Immunoglobulins

Background: Varicella-zoster infection is a serious and potentially fatal disease, especially among newborns.Several studies have described postnatal varicella zoster exposure among neonates and reported on the efficacy of varicella-zoster immunoglobulins (VZIG) used as post-exposure prophylaxis. Unfortunately, VZIG is not available in Jordan. A limited number of studies have investigated the e...

High-Flow Nasal Cannula Therapy for Acute Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure in Adults: A Retrospective Analysis.

OBJECTIVE High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy is an oxygen delivery system. However, evidence regarding the clinical applications of HFNC is still emerging. We herein evaluated the clinical predictors of HFNC therapy success for adult patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the subjects with acute hypoxemic respiratory f...

High flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy in immunocompromised patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure

Introduction In the early 2000’s, two randomized controlled trials have shown that non-invasive ventilation (NIV) could decrease mortality of immunocompromised patients admitted to ICU for acute respiratory failure (ARF) as compared to standard oxygen therapy (O2) [1,2]. However, the benefits of NIV in immunocompetent patients with ARF failure are debated. High flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy...
